washington, d.c. and new york city. these locations will start to see rain on wednesday and new england states will see rain from your wednesday afternoon because frigid air is blanketing parts of the eastern half of the u.s. and rain may change over to snow in areas like new york city, massachusetts, and southern quebec into your thursday. out towards the west then we have another low pressure system which is weakening over the western great lakes region and that is producing rain and snow and the system will weaken and move towards the southeast so chicago will turn dry as we head into wednesday. back behind another storm system is moving into british columbia in the pacific northwest bringing coastal rain and heavy mountain snow and they will see an additional 20 centimeters of snowfall. to the south dry conditions and temperatures on the mild side, 24 degrees expected in los angeles, 23 in denver, and on the other hand very chilly, only 6 degrees in new york city, 7 in washington, d.c., and millions of households are without electricity so this is definitely critical situation. movi

on the ground, from new york city into the new england states many we thought this storm might make a southern push, put maryland more into that coating to an inch type scenario. it just did not pan out. no shoveling required. plows can take it easy. you can see the center of the storm a couple hundred miles off of atlantic city, new jersey and sending in the wrap around prescription -- precipitation. temperatures diving into the 30s, just above freezing, enough for slick spots. trend for tomorrow we'll warm it up. 32 tonight. a few snow showers but mainly to the north and east. tomorrow 50 under clearing skies. it will stay breezy. and then 33 tomorrow night as we stay clear, cold. the outlook into the weekend is good stuff. temperatures getting mild. we're at 60 on saturday. some spots south of the city toward edgewater, 70. that's good news for the veterans day parade. kind of an ugly night, especially eastern shore, up through cecil. >>> all right. you have voted and the verdict is. it's the president who beat out mitt romney. tory dunnan joins us with more on the president's big night. >>

. that's the first thing. second thing is, we got snow in new york city coming down right now. light snow reported. a camera from a ban of snow up into southwest connecticut that could rotate down right over new york city and produce heavier area of snow. the national weather service in new york has upgraded that area to a winter weather advisory. one to three inches on the grassy areas and in some of the building tops is not out of the question here. in trenton, we've got a mixture of sleet and snow, nothing heavy at the present time but the radar is showing some very intense snow up across connecticut. near hartford, bristol, waterbury, those areas have accumulating snow. i've seen pictures on the interstate where it is accumulating on the roads. the is intensity of the snow is key, andrea. wherever it falls whether philadelphia, new york, hoboken, hartford, if it comes down fast enough, for a long enough period of time, there are going to be problems on the roads and there are going to be additional power outages. back to you. >> jim c much for the warnings, i think. say it isn't so. >

. it's a wide area. it's snowing from massachusetts into connecticut and areas north of new york city. moderate snow is falling in parts of new jersey. it looks like the moisture cranked inland. we could have the moisture make it to the metro area. not a lot of it. not much in the way of problems for us. here in northeastern maryland there could be as well as northern delaware. the philadelphia area could get quite a bit of snow out of it. we'll keep you informed about that in the afternoon hours. doug and veronica will be here. we'll have special updates to watch the progress of the storm. the temperatures are well above freezing. low to mid-40s. the road temperatures right now around 40 degrees, so that is really a mitigating factor for precipitation that falls. a winter weather advisory for northeastern maryland. a winter storm warning for northern delaware, new jersey and philadelphia where they could get four, five, six inches of wet snow later today. for us, i don't think it's going to happen. hour-by-hour, might have a few flakes falling by 2:00. late afternoon and the evening

the snow is, up between philadelphia, new york city. they're seeing heavy bands of snow through portions of jersey, including along the coast. areas that are hard hit by sandy are seeing snow. that is not good news for them. a live shot towards trenton, new jersey. this is a little bit earlier this afternoon. as the snow was falling, the snow continues to fall there right now. we'll continue to see that snow piling up in that region. they could see two to four, maybe five inches of snow before it's all said and done for them. unfortunately that could mean more power outages. for us, 45 degrees, winds out of the north at 16 miles per hour. cloudy skies with rain moving in. temperatures are on the cold side. look at these windchills, sitting at 35 in gaithersburg, 38 at the airport and 37 in manassas. once again, this will not be a big event for us. i'll come back and tell you what the big event will be, though, in just a minute. >>> a live look at reagan national airport where a number of flights heading north have been canceled already. united airlines suspended most of its service this
